Iceland Luxury Expeditions

ILE positions Iceland as a true luxury destination for the high-end B2B trade, replacing standardized circuits with private, curated access to the country's geology and culture. One team owns the entire mandate from arrival to departure, with discretion, ground knowledge, and operational reliability, so partner agencies can absorb less complexity and protect the client experience.

Key characteristics

  • 10+ years as a B2B-only luxury DMC in Iceland
  • Native Icelandic guide team, with former President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson as occasional guest guide
  • Meet & Greet concierge at KEF, with optional Saga Lounge access
  • Two exclusive private villas for buyout: Eclipse Retreat and Forest Retreat
  • Fully bespoke itineraries for families, corporate groups, and VIP travellers

Must know about the destination

  • Currency: Icelandic króna (ISK). Credit cards are widely accepted everywhere.
  • Language: Icelandic; English is spoken fluently across the tourism sector.
  • Climate: sub-arctic. Summer temperatures range from 10 to 15C with near 24-hour daylight in June and July; winter temperatures hover around 0°C with very short days but offer the best chances for Northern Lights (September to March).
  • Timezone: GMT year-round (no daylight saving).
  • Passport: EU and Schengen-area travellers need only an ID card; most other nationalities require a passport and possibly a Schengen visa.
  • Tap water is among the purest in the world and safe to drink everywhere.
  • Tipping is not expected.
  • Plan layered clothing in any season, as weather can shift quickly.

How to get there

  • Iceland is served primarily by Keflavk International Airport (KEF), located 50 km from Reykjavík and connected to major European hubs (London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Madrid) as well as transatlantic gateways in North America (New York, Boston, Toronto) through Icelandair and several low-cost carriers.
  • Flight time from Western Europe is roughly 3 hours; from the US East Coast around 5 to 6 hours.
  • ILE arranges the full arrival experience, including Meet & Greet at KEF, transfer to central Reykjavík or the selected villa, and, when required, seamless connection via Reykjavík Airport (RKV) for domestic flights to regions such as Akureyri or the Westfjords.
